The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The middle prayer is the Asr prayer."

[Its chain of transmission is hasan]. Ibn Abu Shayba (3/226, no. 10787) also narrated it from Ubaydullah bin Musa with the same chain, and Ibn Majah (no. 1822) narrated it from the hadith of Bara bin Azib with the same chain. Hakim (2/285) graded it sahih, as did Dhahabi and Busiri.
