By Allah, this is exactly how I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recite it, yet these people want me to recite it as "and what created", and I will not follow them.
حدثنا هناد حدثنا أبو معاوية عن الأعمش عن إبراهيم عن علقمة قال قدمنا الشام فأتانا أبو الدرداء فقال أفيكم أحد يقرأ علي قراءة عبد الله قال فأشاروا إلي فقلت نعم قال كيف سمعت عبد الله يقرأ هذه الآية {والليل إذا يغشى} قال قلت سمعته يقرؤها {والليل إذا يغشى} والذكر والأنثى
وأنا والله هكذا سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقرؤها وهؤلاء يريدونني أن أقرأها {وما خلق} فلا أتابعهم
Sourcing, agreed upon [by Bukhari and Muslim]. Muslim also narrated it in the Book of the Prayer of Travelers, Chapter on Matters Related to Recitations, hadith 824, from the report of Abu Muawiya, and Bukhari, hadith 4943, 4944, from the report of Amash, with the same wording.
