The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The believer is like a stalk of crop, the winds keep bending it back and forth, and the believer is continually struck by trials. The hypocrite is like the cedar tree, it does not sway until it is cut down."
حدثنا الحسن بن علي الخلال وغير واحد قالوا حدثنا عبد الرزاق أخبرنا معمر عن الزهري عن سعيد بن المسيب
قال رسول الله ﷺ مثل المؤمن كمثل الزرع لا تزال الرياح تفيئه ولا يزال المؤمن يصيبه بلاء ومثل المنافق مثل شجرة الأرز لا تهتز حتى تستحصد
Muslim also narrated it in the Book of the Characteristics of the Hypocrites, Chapter on the Believer Being Like a Crop while the Hypocrite and Disbeliever are Like the Cedar Tree, hadith no. 2809, from the hadith of Abdul-Razzaq, and Bukhari, hadith no. 5644, from the hadith of Abu Hurairah with the same wording.
