The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When you travel through fertile land, give the camels their share of the ground. When you travel through a barren season, hasten with them before their strength gives out. When you stop to rest at night, keep away from the road, for it is the path of animals and the shelter of vermin by night."He said, this is a hasan sahih hadith.

أن رسول الله ﷺ قال إذا سافرتم في الخصب فأعطوا الإبل حظها من الأرض وإذا سافرتم في السنة فبادروا بها نقيها وإذا عرستم فاجتنبوا الطريق فإنها طرق الدواب ومأوى الهوام بالليل قال هذا حديث حسن صحيح
Muslim also narrated it in the Book of Leadership, chapter on observing the welfare of riding animals during travel, etc., hadith no. 1926, from Qutayba with the same wording.On this topic there is also a report from Anas, referring to the hadith of Abu Dawud, no. 2571, and from Jabir [Abu Dawud, no. 2570].
