The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "For one of you to have his belly filled with pus is better for him than to have it filled with poetry."He said, this is a hasan sahih hadith.
حدثنا محمد بن بشار أخبرنا يحيى بن سعيد عن شعبة عن قتادة عن يونس بن جبير
قال رسول الله ﷺ لأن يمتلئ جوف أحدكم قيحا خير له من أن يمتلئ شعرا قال هذا حديث حسن صحيح
Muslim also recorded it in the Book of Manners, in the chapter on the dislike of a person being so overtaken by poetry that it distracts him from the remembrance of Allah, knowledge, and the Quran, hadith no. 2258, from the hadith of Shubah through this chain.There are also narrations on this subject from Saad, in the same chapter, no. 2851, Abu Saeed [Muslim, no. 2259], Ibn Umar [Bukhari, no. 6154], and Abu Darda [Ibn Adi, 1/406].
