Amr bin As sent him to Ali to seek permission to visit Asma bint Umays, and Ali granted him permission. When he had finished his errand, the freedman asked Amr bin As about this, and he replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us," or he said, "forbade that we enter upon women without the permission of their husbands."
حدثنا سويد حدثنا عبد الله أخبرنا شعبة عن الحكم عن ذكوان عن مولى
أن عمرو بن العاص أرسله إلى علي يستأذنه على أسماء بنت عميس فأذن له حتى إذا فرغ من حاجته سأل المولى عمرو بن العاص عن ذلك فقال إن رسول الله ﷺ نهانا أو نهى أن ندخل على النساء بغير إذن أزواجهن
[Hasan]. Ahmad reported it in 4/197 from the hadith of Shuba with the same wording. Hakam bin Utayba stated explicitly that he heard it, and the freedman of Amr bin As is unnamed. The hadith has corroborating narrations in Muslim, no. 2173, and Ibn Abu Shayba, 4/410, and others. Ibn Abu Shayba reported with a sahih chain from Tamim bin Salama (trustworthy) who said, Amr bin As said, "We were forbidden to visit women whose husbands were away except with the permission of their husbands."On this subject there are also narrations from Uqba bin Amir [Bukhari, no. 5232, and Muslim, no. 2172], Abdullah bin Amr [Muslim, no. 2173], and Jabir [Muslim, no. 2171].
