While the Prophet ﷺ was walking, a man came to him with a donkey and said, "Messenger of Allah, ride it," and the man stepped back.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You have more right to the front of your mount than I do, unless you give it to me."The man replied, "I give it to you."So he rode it.
حدثنا أبو عمار الحسين بن حريث حدثنا علي بن الحسين بن واقد حدثني أبي حدثني عبد الله بن بريدة قال سمعت
بينما النبي ﷺ يمشي إذ جاءه رجل ومعه حمار فقال يا رسول الله اركب وتأخر الرجل فقال رسول الله ﷺ لأنت أحق بصدر دابتك إلا أن تجعله لي قال قد جعلته لك قال فركب
[Its chain of transmission is hasan]. Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Jihad, chapter "The Owner of the Riding Animal Has More Right to Its Front," hadith no. 2572, from the hadith of Ali bin Husayn, with the same wording. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, hadith no. 2001, as did Hakim, "according to the criterion of Muslim," 22/64, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
