When they saw him, he said, "Sit down. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever is pleased that some men should stand up for him, let him take his seat in the Fire.'"
حدثنا محمود بن غيلان حدثنا قبيصة حدثنا سفيان عن حبيب بن الشهيد عن أبي مجلز قال خرج معاوية فقام
حين رأوه فقال اجلسا سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول من سره أن يتمثل له الرجال قياما فليتبوأ مقعده من النار
[Hasan] Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Manners, chapter on a man standing for another man to honor him, hadith no. 5229, from the hadith of Habib bin Shaheed through this route. The hadith has supporting narrations in Tabarani, 19/362, and Tahawi in Mushkil Athar, 2/38, 39, and others.There is also a narration on this subject from Abu Umama [Abu Dawud, hadith no. 5230].
