I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Upon you be peace."He said, "Do not say, 'Upon you be peace,' but rather say, 'Peace be upon you.'"He mentioned a long story. This is a good and authentic hadith.
حدثنا بذلك الحسن بن علي الخلال حدثنا أبو أسامة عن أبي غفار المثنى بن سعيد الطائي عن أبي تميمة الهجيمي
أتيت النبي ﷺ فقلت عليك السلام فقال لا تقل عليك السلام ولكن قل السلام عليك وذكر قصة طويلة وهذا حديث حسن صحيح
Grading, its chain of transmission is sahih. Abu Dawud also reported it in the Book of Clothing, chapter on what has been said about trailing the lower garment, hadith 4084, from the hadith of Abu Ghifar, at greater length. See also the previous hadith. It has another route through Abu Tamima, which Hakim graded sahih (4/186), and Dhahabi agreed with him.
