Umar bin Khattab reported,

I sought permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ three times, and he granted me permission.

Muslim also narrated it, no. 1479, from the hadith of Umar bin Yunus at length, and this is a very abridged version of it. Bukhari also related it, no. 89, from the hadith of Ibn Abbas.
