The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware, perhaps a man will hear a hadith from me while reclining on his couch and say, 'Between us and you is the Book of Allah. Whatever we find lawful in it, we treat as lawful, and whatever we find forbidden in it, we treat as forbidden.' Indeed, what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has forbidden is like what Allah has forbidden."
Its isnad is hasan. Ibn Majah narrated it in his introduction, in the chapter on the reverence due to the hadith of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the severity against whoever opposes it, hadith 12, from the hadith of Muawiya bin Salih, with the same wording, and Hakim graded it sahih, 1/109.
