We used to come to Abu Saeed, and he would say, "Welcome to those entrusted to us by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The people are your followers. Some men will come to you from the far regions of the earth seeking to gain understanding of the religion. When they come to you, treat them well.'"
حدثنا سفيان بن وكيع حدثنا أبو داود الحفري عن سفيان
كنا نأتي أبا سعيد فيقول مرحبا بوصية رسول الله ﷺ إن رسول الله ﷺ قال إن الناس لكم تبع وإن رجالا يأتونكم من أقطار الأرضين يتفقهون في الدين فإذا أتوكم فاستوصوا بهم خيرا
Its chain of transmission is very daif. Ibn Majah narrated it in the Introduction, in the chapter on enjoining kindness toward students of knowledge, no. 249, from the hadith of Sufyan Thawri, with the same wording. Abu Harun is very daif and accused of fabrication.
