Hanzala Usayidi reported,

Among the scribes of the Prophet ﷺ was Hanzala. He once passed by Abu Bakr while he was weeping.Abu Bakr asked, "What is the matter with you, Hanzala?"He replied, "Hanzala has become a hypocrite, Abu Bakr. When we are with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he reminds us of the Fire and the Garden until it is as though we see them with our own eyes. But when we return to our wives and our occupations, we forget much."Abu Bakr said, "By Allah, we experience the same thing. Let us go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."So they set off, and when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw him, he asked, "What is the matter with you, Hanzala?"He replied, "Hanzala has become a hypocrite, Messenger of Allah. When we are with you, you remind us of the Fire and the Garden until it is as though we see them with our own eyes. But when we leave, we busy ourselves with our wives and our occupations and forget much."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If you were to remain in the state you are in when you are with me, the angels would shake your hands in your gatherings, on your paths, and upon your beds. But, Hanzala, there is a time for this and a time for that, a time for this and a time for that."
