My father heard me saying "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful" while I was in prayer, so he said to me, "My son, this is an innovation. Beware of innovation."He said, "I have never seen anyone among the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who hated innovation in Islam more than him. I prayed with the Prophet ﷺ, with Abu Bakr, with Umar, and with Uthman, and I never heard any of them say it. So do not say it. When you pray, say, 'All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.'"
[Its chain of transmission is daif]. Ibn Majah also related it in Iqamat al-Salawat, chapter on beginning the recitation, hadith 815, from the hadith of Ismail, who is Ibn Ulaya, through the same route. Ibn Abdullah bin Mufaddal is of unknown status, and no one but Tirmidhi has affirmed his reliability.
