I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "On the Day of Resurrection, the sun will be brought close to the servants until it is the distance of a mile or two from them."Sulaym said, "I do not know which of the two miles he meant, the distance measured on land, or the small rod used to apply kohl to the eye."He continued, "The sun will melt them, and they will be drowning in their sweat according to their deeds. Some will be in it up to their heels, some up to their knees, some up to their waists, and some will have it reach their mouths like a bridle." I then saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gesture with his hand to his mouth, indicating how it would bridle them.
Its takhrij, Muslim also narrated it in "The Book of Paradise and Its Bliss," the chapter on the description of the Day of Resurrection, may Allah help us endure its terrors, hadith no. 2864, from the narration of Abdul-Rahman bin Yazid, with the same wording. On this topic, there is also a narration from Abu Saeed [Hakim: 4/571] and Ibn Umar [coming up, 2422].
