He traced it back to the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "Allah says, 'Whoever loses his two beloved ones and bears it patiently, seeking reward, I will be content with no recompense for him short of Paradise.'"

رفعه إلى النبي ﷺ قال يقول الله عز وجل من أذهبت حبيبتيه فصبر واحتسب لم أرض له ثوابا دون الجنة
[Sahih]. Ahmad also narrated it: 265/2, from Abdul-Razzaq, with the same wording. Nasai narrated it in Kubra, no. 11446, from the hadith of Amash, with the same wording, and Suhayl corroborated him, as found in Ibn Hibban, no. 707.
