Abu Hurairah reported,

The Prophet ﷺ went out at a time when he would not normally go out and when no one would meet him. Abu Bakr came to him, and the Prophet ﷺ asked, "What has brought you out, Abu Bakr?"He replied, "I came out to meet the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, to look upon his face, and to greet him with peace."It was not long before Umar came, and the Prophet ﷺ asked, "What has brought you out, Umar?"Umar said, "Hunger, Messenger of Allah."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I too have felt some of that."So they set off to the home of Abu al-Haytham bin al-Tayyihan al-Ansari, who was a man of many palm trees and sheep but had no servants. They did not find him there, so they asked his wife, "Where is your husband?"She replied, "He has gone to fetch fresh water for us."It was not long before Abu al-Haytham came carrying a waterskin which he was lugging along. He set it down, then came and embraced the Prophet ﷺ, offering his father and mother as ransom for him. Then he led them to his garden and spread out a mat for them. He went to a palm tree and brought back a cluster of dates, which he placed before them. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Could you not have picked out the ripe ones for us?"He replied, "Messenger of Allah, I wanted you to choose from the ripe and the unripe yourselves."So they ate and drank from that water. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By the One in whose hand my soul is, this is from the bounty about which you will be asked on the Day of Resurrection, cool shade, fine ripe dates, and cold water."Abu al-Haytham went off to prepare food for them. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not slaughter one that gives milk."So he slaughtered for them a young goat or kid and brought it to them, and they ate.The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Do you have a servant?"He said, "No."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then when captives are brought to us, come to us."Two captives were brought to the Prophet ﷺ without a third, and Abu al-Haytham came to him. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Choose between the two."He said, "Prophet of Allah, choose for me."The Prophet ﷺ said, "The one whose counsel is sought is entrusted. Take this one, for I have seen him praying. And treat him kindly."Abu al-Haytham went to his wife and told her what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said. His wife said, "You will not fulfill what the Prophet ﷺ said about him unless you set him free."He said, "Then he is freed."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah has not sent a prophet or appointed a successor without giving him two inner circles of advisors, an inner circle that commands him to do good and forbids him from evil, and an inner circle that spares no effort in corrupting him. Whoever is protected from the evil inner circle has truly been protected."
