Sahl was asked, "Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ eat Naqi," meaning fine white flour?Sahl replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ never saw Naqi until he met Allah."He was then asked, "Did you have sieves during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"He said, "We had no sieves."He was asked, "Then how did you handle the barley?"He answered, "We would blow on it, so whatever flew off flew off, then we would moisten what remained and knead it."

أنه قيل له أكل رسول الله ﷺ النقي يعني الحوارى فقال سهل ما رأى رسول الله ﷺ النقي حتى لقي الله فقيل له هل كانت لكم مناخل على عهد رسول الله ﷺ قال ما كانت لنا مناخل قيل فكيف كنتم تصنعون بالشعير قال كنا ننفخه فيطير منه ما طار ثم نثريه فنعجنه
Its isnad is hasan. Bukhari also narrated it in the Book of Foods, chapter on what the Prophet ﷺ and his companions used to eat, hadith no. 5413, 5410, from the hadith of Abu Hazim, in abridged form.
