A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Last night I saw a cloud canopy from which butter and honey were dripping, and I saw people drawing from it with their hands, some taking much and some taking little. I also saw a rope reaching from the sky to the earth, and I saw you, Messenger of Allah, take hold of it and rise high. Then another man took hold of it after you and rose, then another man after him took hold of it and rose, then another man took hold of it and it broke off in his hand, but then it was joined for him and he rose by it."Abu Bakr said, "Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be ransom for you, by Allah, let me interpret it."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Interpret it."Abu Bakr said, "As for the canopy, it is the canopy of Islam. As for the butter and honey dripping from it, that is the Quran, its softness and its sweetness. As for those taking much and those taking little, they are those who take much from the Quran and those who take little from it. As for the rope reaching from the sky to the earth, it is the truth that you are upon. You take hold of it and Allah raises you by it. Then another man takes hold of it and rises by it, then another man takes hold of it and rises by it, then another man takes hold of it but it breaks off, and then it is joined for him and he rises. Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be ransom for you, do tell me, was I right or wrong?"The Prophet ﷺ said, "You were right in part and wrong in part."Abu Bakr said, "I swear by my father and mother, you must tell me what I got wrong."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not swear."He said, This is a hasan sahih hadith.
