One morning the Messenger of Allah ﷺ spoke of Dajjal. He lowered his voice about him and then raised it, until we thought he was there among the palm groves. When we left the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and later returned to him, he noticed the state we were in and asked, "What is the matter with you?"We said, "Messenger of Allah, you mentioned Dajjal this morning, lowering your voice and then raising it, until we thought he was there among the palm groves."He said, "It is not Dajjal I fear most for you. If he comes out while I am among you, I will contend with him on your behalf. If he comes out when I am no longer among you, then each man must contend for himself, and Allah will be my successor in watching over every Muslim. He is a young man with tightly curled hair and a sightless eye, resembling Abdul-Uzza bin Qatan. Whoever among you sees him should recite the opening verses of the surah of the Companions of the Cave. He will come out from somewhere between Syria and Iraq and spread ruin to the right and to the left. Servants of Allah, hold firm!"We said, "Messenger of Allah, how long will he remain on the earth?"He said, "Forty days. One day will be like a year, one day like a month, one day like a week, and the rest of his days like your ordinary days."We said, "Messenger of Allah, on that day which is like a year, will one day's prayers be enough for us?"He said, "No, you must calculate the times for it."We said, "Messenger of Allah, how swiftly will he move through the earth?"He said, "Like a rain cloud driven along by the wind. He will come to a people and call them, and they will reject him and refuse his claim, so he will leave them, and their wealth will follow after him, and they will wake up with nothing in their hands. Then he will come to another people and call them, and they will answer him and believe him. He will command the sky to rain and it will rain, and command the earth to bring forth growth and it will bring it forth, and their grazing herds will come back to them in the evening with their humps at their tallest, their flanks at their fullest, and their udders flowing with milk. Then he will come to a ruined place and say to it, 'Bring out your treasures,' and as he leaves it the treasures will follow him like swarming bees. Then he will summon a young man, in the fullness of his youth, and strike him with a sword, cutting him in two pieces. Then he will call him back, and the young man will come forward with his face beaming and laughing. While Dajjal is in that state, Isa son of Maryam will descend at the eastern side of Damascus, by the white minaret, wearing two lightly dyed garments and resting his hands on the wings of two angels. When he lowers his head, water drips from it, and when he raises it, drops like pearls fall from it. No disbeliever who catches the scent of his breath will live, and his breath reaches as far as his sight. He will pursue Dajjal until he overtakes him at the gate of Ludd, and he will kill him. Then he will remain like that as long as Allah wills. Then Allah will reveal to him, 'Gather my servants to Mount Tur, for I have sent down servants of mine whom no one has the strength to fight.' And Allah will send out Yajuj and Majuj, and they will be as Allah described, 'swarming down from every height' [Anbiya 21:96].The first of them will pass by the lake of Tiberias and drink all that is in it, and the last of them will pass by and say, 'There was once water here.' Then they will march on until they reach the mountain of Bayt al-Maqdis, and they will say, 'We have killed everyone on the earth. Come, let us kill those in the sky.' They will shoot their arrows at the sky, and Allah will send their arrows back to them stained red with blood.Isa son of Maryam and his companions will be besieged, until the head of an ox will be worth more to one of them that day than a hundred dinar is to one of you today. Then Isa son of Maryam and his companions will turn to Allah in earnest prayer, and Allah will send a plague into the necks of Yajuj and Majuj, and by morning they will lie dead as though a single soul had died. Then Isa and his companions will come down, and they will not find a hand's span of ground that is not filled with their reek, their stench, and their blood. So Isa and his companions will turn to Allah in earnest prayer again, and Allah will send birds with necks like the necks of Bactrian camels, which will carry the corpses away and cast them wherever Allah wills. The Muslims will burn their bows, arrows, and quivers for fuel for seven years. Then Allah will send down a rain that no house of hide or of clay can keep out. It will wash the earth and leave it smooth as a mirror. Then the earth will be told, 'Bring forth your fruit and restore your blessing.' On that day a group of people will eat from a single pomegranate and take shade beneath its rind. Milk will be so blessed that a great crowd of people will be satisfied by one milch camel, a whole tribe by one milch cow, and a clan by one milch ewe. While they are in that condition, Allah will send a wind that will take the soul of every believer, and the rest of the people will remain, coupling with one another like donkeys. And upon them the Hour will come."
