The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "After me there will be twelve leaders." Then he said something I did not catch, so I asked the man next to me, who replied, "All of them will be from Quraysh."
حدثنا أبو كريب محمد بن العلاء حدثنا عمر بن عبيد الطنافسي عن سماك بن حرب
قال رسول الله ﷺ يكون من بعدي اثنا عشر أميرا قال ثم تكلم بشيء لم أفهمه فسألت الذي يليني فقال كلهم من قريش
[Sahih] Ahmad also recorded it, 5/99, 108, from the hadith of Umar bin Ubayd, and Muslim, no. 6/11, from the hadith of Simak bin Harb, with the same wording. Bukhari, no. 7222, 7223, and Muslim also narrated it through another route from Jabir bin Samura, with the same wording.There is also a report on this topic from Ibn Masud [Ahmad, 1/398, 406] and Abdullah bin Amr [Tabarani in Awsat, 4/508, no. 3865].
