I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "The best of people are my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them. After them will come a people who grow fat and love fatness, giving testimony before being asked for it."
حدثنا واصل بن عبد الأعلى حدثنا محمد بن الفضيل عن الأعمش عن علي بن مدرك عن هلال بن يساف
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول خير الناس قرني ثم الذين يلونهم ثم الذين يلونهم ثم يأتي من بعدهم قوم يتسمنون ويحبون السمن يعطون الشهادة قبل أن يسألوها
[Sahih]. Tabarani reported it in 18/234, no. 583, from the hadith of Amash with the same chain. Bukhari, no. 3650, and Muslim, no. 2535, reported it from the hadith of Imran bin Husayn with the same chain, and it will come again at 2302.Hadith of Waki, Ahmad reported it in 4/426 from him, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, no. 2285, as did Hakim in 3/471, saying it meets the conditions of the two Shaykhs, and Dhahabi agreed with him. Its chain is sahih.
