Umar addressed us at al-Jabiyah and said, "People, I stand among you as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us, and he said, 'I urge you to honor my companions, then those who follow them, then those who follow them. After that, lying will spread until a man swears an oath without being asked to, and a witness gives testimony without being called upon. No man should be alone with a woman, for the third with them is Satan. Hold fast to the community and beware of division, for Satan is with the one alone and is farther from two. Whoever desires the heart of Paradise, let him cling to the community. Whoever is gladdened by his good deeds and grieved by his bad deeds, that is the believer.'"
Sahih. Hakim narrated it in Mustadrak 1/114 from the hadith of Ahmad bin Mani, and Nasai in Kubra, no. 9225, from the hadith of Nadr bin Ismail, by the same route, and Nadr bin Ismail was not alone in narrating it, for Ibn Mubarak followed him (Ahmad 1/18), as did Hakim, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (Ihsan), no. 7210. It has corroborating narrations in Ibn Majah, no. 2363, and elsewhere.
