[Its chain of transmission is daif] Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Jihad, chapter on the prohibition of handing over a drawn sword, hadith 2588, from Hammad bin Salama with this wording. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (al-Ihsan): 5916, as did Hakim, who said it meets the conditions of Muslim: 4/290, and Dhahabi agreed with him. But its chain is daif, since Abu Zubayr used an ambiguous form of transmission (anana). The hadith has daif supporting narrations in Hakim and elsewhere.There is also a narration on this subject from Abu Bakra [Ahmad: 5/42].
