Among the last instructions the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave me was to appoint a muezzin who would not take any payment for his call to prayer.
حدثنا هناد حدثنا أبو زبيد وهو عبثر بن القاسم عن أشعث عن الحسن
إن من آخر ما عهد إلي رسول الله ﷺ أن اتخذ مؤذنا لا يأخذ على أذانه أجرا
[Sahih] Ibn Majah also recorded it, no. 714, from the hadith of Ashath bin Abdul-Malik Harrani through this route, and it has another path in Abu Dawud, no. 531, from Uthman bin Abu As through this route, and its chain is sahih. Hakim graded it sahih according to the conditions of Muslim, 1/299, 300, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
