When Abdul-Rahman bin Awf arrived in Medina, the Prophet ﷺ established a bond of brotherhood between him and Saad bin Rabi.Saad said to him, "Come, let me divide my wealth with you in half. I have two wives, so I will divorce one of them, and once her waiting period is over, you may marry her."Abdul-Rahman replied, "May Allah bless you in your family and your wealth. Just show me the way to the market."So they directed him to the market, and he did not return that day except with some dried curd and clarified butter that he had earned as profit. Some time later, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw him with traces of yellow perfume on him and asked, "What is this?"He replied, "I have married a woman from the Ansar."The Prophet asked, "What dowry did you give her?"He said, "A date stone's weight," Humayd said, or he said, "the weight of a date stone in gold."The Prophet said, "Hold a wedding feast, even if only with a single sheep."
[Sahih] Ahmad related it: 3/190, from Ismail, who is Ibn Ulaya, and Bukhari, no. 5167, and others, from the hadith of Humayd Tawil through this route, and he stated explicitly that he had heard it.
