Hudhayfah asked for water, and someone brought him a silver vessel. He threw it at him and said, "I had forbidden him from this, but he refused to stop. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade drinking from silver and gold vessels, and forbade wearing silk and brocade. He said, 'They are for them in this world, and for you in the Hereafter.'"
حدثنا محمد بن بشار حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن الحكم قال سمعت
أن حذيفة استسقى فأتاه إنسان بإناء من فضة فرماه به وقال إني كنت قد نهيته فأبى أن ينتهي إن رسول الله ﷺ نهى عن الشرب في آنية الفضة والذهب ولبس الحرير والديباج وقال هي لهم في الدنيا ولكم في الآخرة
Agreed upon [by Bukhari and Muslim]. Muslim also recorded it in "Clothing and Adornment," the chapter on the prohibition of using vessels of gold and silver for men and women, etc., hadith no. 2067, from Muhammad bin Bashshar, and Bukhari, hadith no. 5831, through the hadith of Shubah with this same wording.There are also narrations on this topic from Umm Salama [Bukhari, no. 5634, and Muslim, no. 2065], Bara [Bukhari, no. 1239, and Muslim, no. 2066], and Ayesha [Ibn Majah, no. 3415].
