The Prophet ﷺ said, "Shut the door, tie the water-skin, turn the vessel upside down or cover it, and put out the lamp, for Satan does not open a closed door, untie a fastened skin, or uncover a vessel, and the little mischief-maker can set a household ablaze upon its people."
Muslim also narrated it in the Book of Drinks, the chapter on the recommendation of covering vessels, meaning covering them and tying up water-skins, etc., hadith 2012, from the hadith of Malik through this same chain, and it is also found in Muwatta, 2/928, 929.There are also narrations on this subject from Ibn Umar (to come, 1813), Abu Hurairah (Ibn Majah, hadith 3411), and Ibn Abbas (Abu Dawud, hadith 5247).
