The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, "Who are the best of people?"He replied, "A man who strives in the cause of Allah."They asked, "Then who?"He answered, "Then a believer in one of the mountain passes who fears his Lord and spares people from his harm."
حدثنا أبو عمار حدثنا الوليد بن مسلم عن الأوزاعي حدثنا الزهري عن عطاء بن يزيد الليثي
سئل رسول الله ﷺ أي الناس أفضل قال رجل يجاهد في سبيل الله قالوا ثم من قال ثم مؤمن في شعب من الشعاب يتقي ربه ويدع الناس من شره
Hadith 188. Its documentation: Agreed upon [by Bukhari and Muslim]. Muslim also related it in the Book of Leadership, in the chapter on the merit of martyrdom in the path of Allah, from the hadith of Uzai. And Bukhari related it, hadith 2786, from the hadith of Zuhri, with the same content.
