The Quraysh were greatly concerned about the case of the Makhzumi woman who had committed theft. They said, "Who will speak to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about her?"Others replied, "Who would dare to do so except Usama bin Zayd, the beloved of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?"So Usama spoke to him about the matter. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Are you interceding regarding one of the prescribed punishments of Allah?"Then he stood up and delivered a sermon, saying, "What destroyed those before you was that whenever a noble person among them stole, they let him go, but whenever a weak person among them stole, they carried out the punishment on him. By Allah, if Fatimah, daughter of Muhammad, were to steal, I would cut off her hand."
