Umar acquired some land at Khaybar, so he came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, I have acquired property at Khaybar, and I have never obtained any property more valuable to me than it. What do you command me to do with it?"He said, "If you wish, you may retain its principal and give its produce as charity."So Umar gave it as charity, on the condition that its principal would not be sold, given away, or inherited. He gave its produce as charity to the poor, to relatives, for the freeing of slaves, in the path of Allah, to the traveler, and to the guest. There is no blame on whoever administers it if he eats from it in a reasonable manner or feeds a friend, without accumulating wealth from it.The narrator said, I mentioned this to Muhammad bin Sirin, and he said the wording was "without amassing wealth."Ibn Awn said, Another man narrated it to me and told me that he had read it on a piece of red leather as "without amassing wealth."Ismail said, I myself read it in the possession of the son of Ubaydullah bin Umar, and the wording in it was "without amassing wealth."
حدثنا علي بن حجر أنبأنا إسمعيل بن إبراهيم عن ابن عون عن نافع
أصاب عمر أرضا بخيبر فقال يا رسول الله أصبت مالا بخيبر لم أصب مالا قط أنفس عندي منه فما تأمرني قال إن شئت حبست أصلها وتصدقت بها فتصدق بها عمر أنها لا يباع أصلها ولا يوهب ولا يورث تصدق بها في الفقراء والقربى والرقاب وفي سبيل الله وابن السبيل والضيف لا جناح على من وليها أن يأكل منها بالمعروف أو يطعم صديقا غير متمول فيه قال فذكرته لمحمد بن سيرين فقال غير متأثل مالا قال ابن عون فحدثني به رجل آخر أنه قرأها في قطعة أديم أحمر غير متأثل مالا قال إسمعيل وأنا قرأتها عند ابن عبيد الله بن عمر فكان فيه غير متأثل مالا
