A man whose judgment was weak used to engage in buying and selling. His family came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, restrict him from making transactions."The Prophet of Allah ﷺ called him over and forbade him from it.The man said, "Messenger of Allah, I cannot bear to give up trading."The Prophet ﷺ said, "When you make a transaction, say, 'Hand to hand, and no deception.'"
حدثنا يوسف بن حماد البصري حدثنا عبد الأعلى بن عبد الأعلى عن سعيد عن قتادة
أن رجلا كان في عقدته ضعف وكان يبايع وأن أهله أتوا النبي ﷺ فقالوا يا رسول الله احجر عليه فدعاه نبي الله ﷺ فنهاه فقال يا رسول الله إني لا أصبر عن البيع فقال إذا بايعت فقل هاء وهاء ولا خلابة
[Sahih]. Nasai also narrated it: 7/252, no. 4490 (Buyu, chapter on deception in selling) from Yusuf bin Hammad, and Ibn Majah, no. 2354, from the hadith of Abdul-Ala, with the same wording. Abu Dawud narrated it, no. 3501, from the hadith of Saeed bin Abu Aruba, with the same wording, and Ibn Jarud graded it sahih, no. 568, as did Ibn Hibban (Ihsan), nos. 5027, 5028, and Hakim, 4/101, according to the criterion of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and Dhahabi agreed with him. It has supporting narrations in Bukhari and Muslim and others.There is also a narration on this subject from Ibn Umar [Bukhari, no. 2117, and Muslim, no. 1533].
