The husband of Barirah was a black slave belonging to the tribe of Banu Mughira on the day Barirah was set free. By Allah, it is as if I can still see him in the streets and outskirts of Madinah, his tears flowing down his beard as he tried to win her favor so that she would choose to remain with him, but she refused.

أن زوج بريرة كان عبدا أسود لبني المغيرة يوم أعتقت بريرة والله لكأني به في طرق المدينة ونواحيها وإن دموعه لتسيل على لحيته يترضاها لتختاره فلم تفعل
