When he prayed over a funeral and found the people few in number, he would divide them into three rows. Then he said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever has three rows praying over him has earned it."
[Its chain is daif] Abu Dawud narrated it in Janaiz, Chapter on Lining Up for the Funeral Prayer, no. 3166, and Ibn Majah narrated it, no. 1490, both from the hadith of Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Yasar with this chain, but here he did not clearly state that he heard it directly, and it contains another serious flaw. Despite this, Hakim declared it sahih (1/362), as did Dhahabi, while Nawawi graded it hasan. On this topic there are also narrations from Ayesha [to come, no. 1029], Umm Habiba [I did not find it], Abu Hurairah [Ibn Majah, no. 1488], and Maymuna, the wife of the Prophet [Nasai, no. 1995].
