The Prophet ﷺ took Abdul-Rahman bin Awf by the hand and went with him to his son Ibrahim, finding him at the point of death. The Prophet ﷺ took him and placed him in his lap, and he wept.Abdul-Rahman said to him, "Are you weeping? Did you not forbid weeping?"He replied, "No, but I forbade two foolish and sinful sounds, a voice raised at the time of calamity with scratching of faces and tearing of garments, and the wailing cry of Satan."The hadith contains more words than this.

Sourcing, hasan. Abd bin Humayd narrated it, no. 1006, from the hadith of Muhammad bin Abu Layla through this route. Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman Ibn Abu Layla has another version of it with Hakim, 4/40, and Tahawi in Maani al-Athar, 4/293. The hadith has a corroborating witness with Bazzar (Kashf), 1/377, no. 795, and its chain is hasan. Diya also included it in al-Mukhtarah.
