The Prophet ﷺ used to lead us in the noon prayer, reciting in the first two units in such a way that we could hear a verse from him now and then. He would lengthen the first unit of the noon prayer, and likewise the first unit of the dawn prayer.
أخبرني يحيى بن درست قال حدثنا أبو إسمعيل وهو القناد قال حدثنا خالد قال حدثنا يحيى بن أبي كثير أن
عن النبي ﷺ قال كان يصلي بنا الظهر فيقرأ في الركعتين الأوليين يسمعنا الآية كذلك وكان يطيل الركعة في صلاة الظهر والركعة الأولى يعني في صلاة الصبح
Bukhari transmitted it in the chapter on adhan, section on recitation in Dhuhr, hadith no. 759, and Muslim transmitted it in the chapter on prayer, section on recitation in Dhuhr and Asr, hadith no. 451, from the hadith of Yahya bin Abu Kathir, with this chain, and it is in Kubra, hadith no. 1046.
