The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The example of the one who knows the Quran is like the example of hobbled camels. If he keeps watch over them, he retains them, but if he sets them loose, they go away."
أخبرنا قتيبة عن مالك عن نافع
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال مثل صاحب القرآن كمثل الإبل المعقلة إذا عاهد عليها أمسكها وإن أطلقها ذهبت
Bukhari transmitted it in the Book of the Virtues of the Quran, Chapter on Reviewing and Maintaining the Quran, no. 5031, and Muslim, and so on, no. 789, from the hadith of Malik through him, and it is found in the Book of the Prayer of Travelers, Chapter on the Command to Maintain the Quran, in Muwatta (Yahya): 1/202, and in the Kubra, no. 1014.
