He saw a man praying with his feet placed perfectly side by side and said, "He has missed the Sunnah. Had he alternated between them, that would have been more pleasing to me."
أخبرنا إسمعيل بن مسعود قال حدثنا خالد عن شعبة قال أخبرني ميسرة بن حبيب قال سمعت المنهال بن عمرو يحدث عن أبي عبيدة

[Its chain is daif] Bayhaqi narrated it, 2/288, in the chapter "One who dislikes lining up his feet together while standing in prayer," through the hadith of Shubah, and it is also in Kubra, hadith 967. See the preceding hadith for its defect. What is meant by "lining up" here is joining together. It occurs in Sunan Abu Dawud, hadith 754, "Aligning the feet is from the sunnah," and its chain is hasan. What is meant by it is making them equal, without one being advanced ahead of the other, as stated in Manhal Adhb Al-Mawrud, 5/159.
