The prayer was called while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in private conversation with a man, and he did not rise to pray until the people had fallen asleep.
أخبرنا زياد بن أيوب قال حدثنا إسمعيل قال حدثنا عبد العزيز
أقيمت الصلاة ورسول الله ﷺ نجي لرجل فما قام إلى الصلاة حتى نام القوم
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Menstruation, in the chapter on the evidence that the sleep of a sitting person does not invalidate wudu, hadith no. 376, from the hadith of Ismail bin Ulaya, and Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Seeking Permission, in the chapter on lengthy private conversation, hadith no. 6292, the hadith of Abdul-Aziz bin Suhayb, with the same wording, and it is also found in Kubra, hadith no. 866.
