The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw some phlegm on the wall facing the qiblah of the mosque, and he became so angry that his face turned red. A woman from the Ansar got up, scraped it off, and applied perfume to the spot. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "How excellent this is!"
Its isnad is daif. Ibn Majah collected it in the Book of Masjids and Congregations, chapter on the disapproval of spitting phlegm in the masjid, no. 762, from the hadith of Aidh bin Habib, transmitted through him. It is also found in Kubra, no. 807. Bukhari indicated a defect in it in Tarikh al-Kabir, 7/60.
