I asked Ibn Umar about the call to prayer. He said, "During the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the adhan was pronounced in pairs and the iqamah was pronounced singly, except that when you said, 'The prayer has begun,' you said it twice. So when we heard, 'The prayer has begun,' we would perform ablution and then go out to the prayer."
أخبرنا عبد الله بن محمد بن تميم قال حدثنا حجاج عن شعبة قال سمعت أبا جعفر مؤذن مسجد العريان
سألت ابن عمر عن الأذان فقال كان الأذان على عهد رسول الله ﷺ مثنى مثنى والإقامة مرة مرة إلا أنك إذا قلت قد قامت الصلاة قالها مرتين فإذا سمعنا قد قامت الصلاة توضأنا ثم خرجنا إلى الصلاة
