The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said during one of his journeys, "Who will keep watch for us tonight so we do not sleep through the dawn prayer?"Bilal replied, "I will."He then turned to face the place where the sun rises, but sleep overcame them all until the heat of the sun woke them. They got up, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "Perform ablution." Then Bilal called the adhan, and they prayed two rakahs, performed the two rakahs of the dawn sunnah, and then prayed the dawn prayer.
أخبرنا أبو عاصم خشيش بن أصرم قال حدثنا يحيى بن حسان قال حدثنا حماد بن سلمة عن عمرو بن دينار
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال في سفر له من يكلؤنا الليلة لا نرقد عن صلاة الصبح قال بلال أنا فاستقبل مطلع الشمس فضرب على آذانهم حتى أيقظهم حر الشمس فقاموا فقال توضئوا ثم أذن بلال فصلى ركعتين وصلوا ركعتي الفجر ثم صلوا الفجر
