They set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the year of Tabuk, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would combine the Zuhr and Asr prayers, and the Maghrib and Isha prayers. One day he delayed the prayer, then came out and prayed Zuhr and Asr together. Then he went inside, then came out again and prayed Maghrib and Isha.
أخبرنا محمد بن سلمة والحارث بن مسكين قراءة عليه وأنا أسمع واللفظ له عن ابن القاسم قال حدثني مالك عن أبي الزبير المكي عن أبي الطفيل عامر بن واثلة أن
أنهم خرجوا مع رسول الله ﷺ عام تبوك فكان رسول الله ﷺ يجمع بين الظهر والعصر والمغرب والعشاء فأخر الصلاة يوما ثم خرج فصلى الظهر والعصر جميعا ثم دخل ثم خرج فصلى المغرب والعشاء
Reported by Muslim, in the book of the prayer of travelers, chapter on combining the two prayers while at home, hadith 706, from the hadith of Abu Zubayr through this same route. It is also in Muwatta (Yahya) 1/143, and in Kubra, hadith 1563.
