I heard Umar delivering a sermon from the pulpit of Madinah. He said, "People, the prohibition of khamr was revealed when it was revealed, and it was made from five things: grapes, dates, honey, wheat, and barley. Khamr is whatever clouds the mind."

سمعت عمر رضي الله عنه يخطب على منبر المدينة فقال أيها الناس ألا إنه نزل تحريم الخمر يوم نزل وهي من خمسة من العنب والتمر والعسل والحنطة والشعير والخمر ما خامر العقل
Muslim reported it in the Book of Tafsir, chapter on the revelation of the prohibition of wine, hadith no. 33/3032, from the hadith of Ismail bin Ulaya. Bukhari reported it in the Book of Drinks, chapter on wine made from grapes and other things, hadith no. 5581, from the hadith of Abu Hayan with the same content. It is also found in Al-Kubra, hadith no. 8850.
