He heard his father saying after the prayer, "Allah, I seek refuge in You from disbelief, poverty, and the punishment of the grave," so I began to recite them in supplication.His father asked, "My son, how did you learn these words?"I replied, "Father, I heard you supplicating with them after the prayer, so I picked them up from you."He said, "Hold fast to them, my son, for the Prophet of Allah ﷺ used to supplicate with them after the prayer."
أخبرنا محمد بن المثنى قال حدثنا ابن أبي عدي قال حدثنا عثمان يعني الشحام قال
أنه كان سمع والده يقول في دبر الصلاة اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الكفر والفقر وعذاب القبر فجعلت أدعو بهن فقال يا بني أنى علمت هؤلاء الكلمات قلت يا أبت سمعتك تدعو بهن في دبر الصلاة فأخذتهن عنك قال فالزمهن يا بني فإن نبي الله ﷺ كان يدعو بهن في دبر الصلاة
