The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The proper place for the lower garment is halfway down the shins and the calf muscle. If you refuse, then lower than that. If you refuse, then below the shin. The ankles have no claim to the lower garment."The wording is that of Muhammad.
أخبرنا إسحق بن إبراهيم ومحمد بن قدامة عن جرير عن الأعمش عن أبي إسحق عن مسلم بن نذير
قال رسول الله ﷺ موضع الإزار إلى أنصاف الساقين والعضلة فإن أبيت فأسفل فإن أبيت فمن وراء الساق ولا حق للكعبين في الإزار واللفظ لمحمد

[sahih] Tirmidhi transmitted it in the Book of Clothing, chapter on how far the lower garment reaches, hadith no. 1783, from the hadith of Abu Ishaq, through this same chain, and he said, This hadith is hasan sahih, narrated by Thawri and Shubah from Abu Ishaq.
