During the year he performed the Hajj, Muawiya gathered a group of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ inside the Kaabah and said to them, "I adjure you by Allah, did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbid the wearing of gold?"They replied, "Yes."He said, "And I bear witness to that as well."Uzai differed from him on this, with his own students differing among themselves in their reports from him.

أن معاوية عام حج جمع نفرا من أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ في الكعبة فقال لهم أنشدكم بالله هل نهى رسول الله ﷺ عن لبوس الذهب قالوا نعم قال وأنا أشهد خالفه الأوزاعي على اختلاف أصحابه عليه فيه
