He passed by the Prophet ﷺ while wearing perfume mixed with saffron. The Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Do you have a wife?"He replied, "No."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then wash it off, then wash it off again, and do not put it on again."
أخبرنا محمد بن عبد الأعلى قال حدثنا خالد عن شعبة عن عطاء بن السائب قال سمعت أبا حفص بن عمرو وقال على إثره يحدث
أنه مر على النبي ﷺ وهو متخلق فقال له هل لك امرأة قلت لا قال فاغسله ثم اغسله ثم لا تعد
[Its chain is daif] Tirmidhi narrated it in the Book of Manners, chapter on the dislike of men using saffron and khaluq perfume, hadith 2816, from the hadith of Shubah, with this chain, and he said, hasan. It is also in al-Kubra, hadith 9416.Abu Hafs is of unknown status, and no one narrated from him except Ata bin Saaib.
