The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Ruwayfi, life may extend long for you after me. So inform the people that whoever knots his beard, or wears a bowstring as a necklace, or cleans himself after relieving nature with animal dung or a bone, Muhammad is free of him."
أخبرنا محمد بن سلمة قال حدثنا ابن وهب عن حيوة بن شريح وذكر آخر قبله عن عياش بن عباس القتباني أن شييم بن بيتان حدثه أنه سمع
إن رسول الله ﷺ قال يا رويفع لعل الحياة ستطول بك بعدي فأخبر الناس أنه من عقد لحيته أو تقلد وترا أو استنجى برجيع دابة أو عظم فإن محمدا بريء منه
[Its chain of transmission is sahih] Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Purification, the chapter on what is forbidden to use for cleaning oneself after relieving oneself, Hadith 36, Hadith 36, from the hadith of Ayyash bin Abbas, with the same wording, adding before Ruwayfi the name Shayban Qatbani. It is also found in al-Kubra, Hadith 9336.
