One of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ was serving as a governor in Egypt. A man from among his companions came to visit him and found him with disheveled, unkempt hair.The visitor said, "Why do I see you so unkempt when you are a governor?"He replied, "The Prophet of Allah ﷺ used to forbid us from irfah."We asked, "What is irfah?"He said, "Combing the hair every day."
أخبرنا إسمعيل بن مسعود قال حدثنا خالد بن الحارث عن كهمس
كان رجل من أصحاب النبي ﷺ عاملا بمصر فأتاه رجل من أصحابه فإذا هو شعث الرأس مشعان قال ما لي أراك مشعانا وأنت أمير قال كان نبي الله ﷺ ينهانا عن الإرفاه قلنا وما الإرفاه قال الترجل كل يوم
